Fire Destroys Contents of Home, Firefighter Injured

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire call early this afternoon, at approximately 12:30, at 278 Lewis Way, just east of Canton.

Cherokee County 911 received a call from a resident who stated that a fire was in their basement.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a double-wide mobile home on a basement with a working fire.  A Cherokee County firefighter who was working the fire inside the home received an injury to his knee.  He was later transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton to be evaluated.  Firefighters reported that the contents inside the basement were destroyed and most of the contents were also destroyed inside the mobile home.

The residents were able to get out without any injuries. Lewis Way Road was blocked to traffic until the operation was complete. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
