Afternoon Fire Destroys House

September 19, 2018

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire yesterday afternoon, just before 3:30, at 5471 Priest Road, off Highway 92, near Acworth.

Fire units were dispatched to the scene after a caller contacted 911 to report a large amount of black smoke coming from an area near Clark Creek Elementary School. Battalion 1 arrived on the scene first to report that a one-story brick home was about 40% involved. Within 10 minutes, a report came in stating that the structure was 100% involved as firefighters worked to get water on the fire.

The home was destroyed, however, according the Cherokee County Fire Investigator, Cheri Collett, “No one was there at the time of the fire and the house was abandoned.”

Portions of Hunt Road, Clark Creek Road and Priest Road were closed until the fire operation was complete. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
