Afternoon Fire Damages Home in Ball Ground

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire this afternoon at 155 Depot Street in Ball Ground.

Firefighters were dispatched around 2:45 and arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames coming from one of the back corners of the house. The landlord stated that he believed the one-story wooden home was built around 1910. According to the 29 year old female occupant of the home, she heard an explosion and went to the back of the house to investigate and saw smoke and flames. She immediately left the area to picked up her 7 month old daughter and exited the house and gave her daughter to a neighbor. She went back in the structure to retrieve her dog. The family that occupied the home also included the father and a 16 year old son who were not home at the time of the fire.

According to firefighters on the scene, the back corner of the house received significant damage while the remainder of the structure had some smoke and water damage.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the house is under investigation.
