Fire Destroys Home on Cumming Highway

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a fire this morning at approximately 11:45, at 12475 Cumming Highway, in Free Home.

Engine 4 and Squad 4 arrived about 4 minutes later to find smoke, but no fire, coming from the one-story structure. Minutes later, fire could be seen coming from the house.   According to the homeowner, he reported that he heard a noise in the bathroom and assumed something was wrong with the washing machine. Once he got into the bathroom to investigate, he observed flames coming from beneath the water heater. The family of four, three adults and one infant, were able to escape without injury. The American Red Cross has been called to assist the family.

According to Cherokee County Fire Investigator, Cheri Collett, The interior is heavily damaged and it will most likely be a total loss. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is being investigated by Cherokee County Fire Investigators.
