West Promoted to Field Operations Chief and Lanier Becomes New Battalion Chief

Two Cherokee County firefighters were promoted on Friday night, June 30th, prior to the 2016 Fire Recruit graduation held at River Ridge High School.

Shane West was promoted to the Chief of Field Operations replacing Greg Erdely who recently retired. West came to work for the fire department on September 25th, 1995. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2001 and became a Lieutenant in 2003. Three years later West became a Captain and then took on the role as a Battalion Chief on December 11, 2011. West was presented with an axe from some of the firefighters who served in his Battalion.

Kevin Lanier was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief. Lanier replaces Shane West’s previous position. Lanier started working with the fire department on October 30th, 2000. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and Lieutenant in 2006. Lanier has been a Captain since December 11th, 2011.

Numerous firefighters, chiefs and family members attended the event.
