Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to an accident this morning, shortly after 4 o’clock, on Highway 372 near the Conns Creek Road intersection.

Emergency service personnel arrived on scene to find a tractor trailer that ran off the highway, gone down an embankment and struck some trees.  The 51 year old male driver of the truck was entrapped in the truck and had to be extricated.  Battalion Chief, Dan Floyd, said that this was one of the most difficult extrications that he had seen.  The driver was conscious and alert, but had some major injuries to his feet and legs.  A life flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but was later cancelled due to weather.  The driver was transported by ambulance to North Fulton Hospital.

Highway 372 was shut down for several hours until the wreckage was cleared from the area and was later opened at approximatley 10:45 AM.  No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.  The cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
