Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire at 4697 Jefferson Township Lane in southwestern Cherokee County, shortly after 7 o’clock this evening.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story structure.  According to a 69 year old female, who was inside the house, a major thunderstorm came through and a lightning bolt apparently struck the house.  She immediately went down to the basement to check for damage and a neighbor went around the house to look for damage, too.  Both couldn’t find any signs of smoke or fire.  The resident went on to say, that approximately 5-10 minutes later, her smoke detector went off and smoke quickly filled their kitchen.  She immediately went to the front porch to get her elderly 75 year old husband to safety and then called 911.

The fire caused extensive fire, smoke and water damage to the home.  Fortunately, no injuries were reported.  Both lanes of Jefferson Township Lane were blocked and the Cherokee County Fire Investigator continues to investigate.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just shortly after 7 PM.
