Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a structure fire this morning, shortly after 1 o’clock, at 938 Victoria Landing Drive.

The first firefighters on scene reported that the house was 80 percent involved with the roof beginning to collapse.  Neighbors indicated that they heard an explosion prior to the fire which appeared to have started in the back of the house.  Ryan Burt, a neighbor who lived across the street, said that the 25 year old occupant of the house was trying to escape through a window above the garage.  Burt got his ladder and ran to the home to assist in the occupant in escaping from the fire.

According to Dean Hege, the Medcon Operator, the occupant had a deep gash in his inner thigh and was also experiencing some smoke inhalation.  He was transported to Kennestone Hospital to be evaluated.

The home was gutted by the morning fire. Both lanes of Victoria Landing Drive were blocked until the clean-up operation was completed.  No additional injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
