Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to an accident this afternoon at approximately 1:45, on old Highway 5 in South Canton, near the intersection with Univeter Road.

When emergency service personnel arrived on scene, they found a silver KIA Optima had left the highway, gone down a 30 foot embankment, and struck some trees.  The driver of the vehicle, a 47 year old male, was entrapment in the automobile and had to be extricated.  Once the patient was removed, he was placed on a backboard and brought up the embankment.  The patient appeared to have non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported and both lanes of Highway 5 were blocked until the wreckage was cleared.  The cause of the accident is being handled by the Canton Police Department.
