Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the City of Canton Fire Department responded to a structure fire yesterday afternoon, just shortly before 5 pm, at 437 Long Branch Way in the Harmony in the Lakes subdivision, off Highway 20.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy black smoke and flames coming from the roof of the two-story brick structure.  The majority of the damage was confined to the back side of the house.  The remaining portions of the home received some smoke and water damage.  According to the homeowner and neighbors in the community, the fire was started by a possible lightning strike as a thunderstorm moved through the area just before the fire call.

No injuries were reported and portions of Long Branch Way were blocked until the clean-up was complete.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the structure.
